The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a full-time Research Associate at the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Perinatal Research Center provides multi-disciplinary, basic and clinical research in the areas of perinatal biology and medicine, functioning as an auxiliary service center, providing laboratory and other research-related facilities and services to Principal Investigators with the Section of Neonatology and also to other Principal Investigators in other departments. The candidate will be responsible for imaging and collected digital images analysis. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to performing histological imaging and analysis using Visiopharm, Imaris, ImageJ and another analysis software. The candidate will be involved in training PRC researchers on imaging equipment usage and performing image analysis, along with equipment management, data analysis and interpretation, and quality control.



Examples of Duties Performed
  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $56,000 - $112,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Doctoral Degree in Bioengineering, Applied Sciences, Biology, or related field from an accredited institution.
    • A sufficient combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for degree, but not for specific experience.
  • One (1) year of experience working with image analysis.
  • Experience working within an academic, medical, or related research laboratory environment.
  • Experience maintaining and cleaning imaging equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) or more years' experience in image analysis.
  • An understanding of digital image processing and analysis techniques.
  • Experience in advanced, high throughput microscopy systems. Olympus scanning systems preferred.
  • Experience working with a semi-automated image analysis software.
  • Experience working with computer and network-based software systems as related to data management.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to accurately follow assigned protocols and learn new techniques as needed.
  • Demonstrated organizational, methodical, detail-oriented, self-motivated competencies.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently, think progressively and trouble shoot complex processes.
  • Capacity to utilizing highly technical microscopy platforms and associated software systems.
  • Work with complex technology and laboratory equipment.
  • Work within a high-level secured facility.
