Position Summary:

The at UNC COM enhances the student experience through leadership development, engagement, wellness, and professionalism programming. This role supports students' personal and professional growth by advising the Student Government Association, leading key events such as Orientation, the White Coat Ceremony, and the Bridging Ceremony, and developing leadership, wellness, and professional initiatives. The Director also fosters and promotes a fair, representative, and accessible campus culture and supports outreach and pathway programs that align with UNC COM's mission.

Job Duties:

Student Leadership, Engagement, and Professionalism (65%)

  • Serve as the advisor to the Student Government Association, guiding leadership development, event planning, and governance.
  • Lead and assist the planning and execution of major institutional events, including New Student Orientation, the White Coat Ceremony, and class-specific milestone events.
  • Design and implement leadership development programming for medical students, aligned with osteopathic principles and professional identity formation.
  • Partner with UNC COM academic leadership, faculty, and the UNC main campus Student Affairs units to foster student engagement, belonging, wellness, and professionalism across both pre-clinical and clinical phases.
  • Coordinate co-curricular and wellness programming to support student connection, well-being, and community in collaboration with the UNC COM mental health counselor
  • Serve as a liaison between UNC COM-specific student organizations and the UNC main campus Student Affairs units, ensuring effective operations, compliance, and student support.
  • Serve on and provide administrative support for the Professionalism Committee, including preparation of materials, documentation, follow-up actions, and case management support.

Culture and Outreach (25%)

  • Develop and deliver educational workshops and training that foster a richness of perspectives in 四虎影视, learning, professionalism, and mentorship across UNC COM.
  • Support the creation and implementation of pathway and outreach initiatives that promote access to medical education for historically underserved and excluded populations.
  • Serve as a resource and co-advisor to student affinity groups and organizations supporting culture and professionalism (e.g., Student Osteopathic Medical Association, Student National Medical Association, Gold Humanism Honor Society) and mission-aligned initiatives as needed

Other Responsibilities (10%)

  • Represent UNC COM Admissions and Student Affairs on institutional task forces, standing committees, and working groups.
  • Contribute to strategic planning efforts focused on student engagement, culture, professionalism, and belonging.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs.
  • Supervise student organization support staff member

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in higher education, with a minimum of two (2) years in student life, student leadership development, orientation, or cultural programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise student organizations and manage student-facing events and programs.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory and inclusive practices in higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and work with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least seven (7) years of progressive experience in higher education, including at least three (3) years in medical education, student affairs, or leadership development.
  • Experience coordinating large-scale student events and supporting wellness or identity-based initiatives.
  • Certification or experience in one or more of the following:
  • Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator
  • QPR Suicide Prevention Certification
  • Appreciative Advising Certification
  • Life Design or similar vocational discernment framework
  • Demonstrated experience developing or supporting outreach or pathway programs to medical education.
