Professor of Practice in Engineering and Entrepreneurship
The Department of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering at the School of Engineering (located in Byblos, Lebanon) invites
applicants for a Professor of Practice position in the broad area of Engineering and Entrepreneurship.
Applications
will be reviewed continuously until the position is filled. Expected start date is September 2026 (Fall 2026), or January 2027 (Spring
2027).
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Engineering and demonstrate a scholarly background along with practical
experience in technology entrepreneurship and innovation, specifically in one or more of the following areas:
- Research commercialization: moving laboratory research toward market-ready solutions
- Founding, co-founding or advising technology startups
- R&D funding: industry-sponsored
research, proof-of-concept funding, multi-stakeholder grant proposals involving academia, industry, investors, and public agencies,
commercialization grants - Engagement with the innovation ecosystem: investor pitching, startup
pre-seed/seed funding, angel investment, VC, due diligence and regulatory processes, valuation principles, hosting by accelerators,
incubators, innovation hubs, and technology transfer offices - Engineering product development:
transforming engineering concepts into validated prototypes and minimum viable products (MVPs), familiarity with product lifecycle
management, design thinking, rapid prototyping, hardware/software integration - Innovation strategy:
market validation, business model development, and scaling of technology solutions from prototype to production
The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to cultivate an innovation-driven culture within engineering education,
equipping students with the skills to develop ideas into products, assess technical feasibility and business viability, identify market
opportunities, manage risk, secure funding, and launch sustainable technology ventures. The candidate will lead experiential learning
initiatives that integrate engineering design with entrepreneurial practice, mentoring students and supervising commercialization-oriented
capstone projects, organizing startup bootcamps or hackathons, facilitating industry-sponsored innovation challenges, and fostering industry
and ecosystem partnerships.
