Position Summary and Key Responsibilities
Position Summary: The Area Coordinator for Residence Life is a full-time, live-in professional staff member of a
dynamic
department committed to committed to fostering a developmentally welcoming, supportive, and engaging environment that encourages
student
well-being, self-responsibility, and mutual respect.
Key Responsibilities:
The following
duties are customary for this
position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on
supervisor discretion and
institutional needs. The Area Coordinator will assume responsibility for the following areas in consultation with
the Assistant Directors of
Residence Life:
- Supervise 12–15 student staff across a residential area housing approximately 400
students. - Oversee
daily building operations, including room condition reporting, check-ins/check-outs, key and roster accuracy,
roommate agreements, and
facilities reporting. - Maintain effective communication with the Physical Plant and assist with damage
billing and repair
processes. - Promote student engagement through collaboration with campus partners and implementation of the
residence life
programming model. - Respond to student concerns, mediate conflicts, and support crisis response with a risk
management
mindset. - Support the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Residence Life staff.
- May assist
with or lead
Summer Housing or Summer Camp operations. - Serve on an on-campus duty rotation.
- Collaborate with Public
Safety and
community partners to ensure a safe living environment. - Serve as a campus resource and referral agent for
students. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Two years of housing administration
experience
Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership, communication, and
interpersonal skills - Ability to supervise and mentor
students and staff from a variety of backgrounds and experiences - Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and problem-solving
abilities - Commitment to inclusive excellence and student
development - Proficiency in conflict resolution, crisis
response, and policy enforcement - Technological competence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in
Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field - Experience with Maxient, The Housing Director, Microsoft Office, and similar
systems - Knowledge of student development theory
and community engagement practices - Experience with supervision, staff
training, and leadership development - Valid
driver’s license (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of employment) - Bilingual abilities
Work
Conditions
Generally, 8am to 5pm, Monday through
Friday, but must be available to work some evenings and
weekends. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds comfortably and walk across
campus. Work will primarily be done in an office setting
however; some work in the elements may be required. In the event of emergency, you
must be able to report to work within a 30-minute
response time, as needed.
