Job Description Summary
This position is available within the University of Maryland鈥檚 Division of Information Technology
(DIT).
The IT Network Engineer works within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park.
This position focuses on access layer network equipment deployments as part of renovations, capital construction, and general network
refresh activities. This requires understanding and gathering of user requirements and translating the information into suitable network
designs and switch configurations. This position also provides engineering and maintenance expertise in support of operations.IT Network
Engineer provides coordination of network equipment purchase/maintenance contracts for network refresh and operations. In addition, position
requires an understanding of network security and may require the development and deployment of network security services. Operations, duty
and audit reports and documentation are essential. The position requires a valid driver's license.
**This position is considered
essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather
emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.**
**May be required to work
evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.**
Physical Demands: Must be able to perform extensive standing,
driving, walking, and climbing; to lift up to 50lbs regularly; to manipulate up to 100lbs with assistance, to transport and stock assigned
supplies and materials; to pick-up from vendors and deliver stock and materials to customers upon request, to wear personal protective
equipment. Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb to reach material.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver鈥檚 License
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional network design, research, implementation, and escalation support experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the
required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of core networking design and implementation over the
WAN. - Knowledge of scalable networks.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in the use of Google Workspace.
- Ability to
interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. - Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer
service.
Preferences:
- Experience with Aruba Switches
- Understanding of Outside Plant Fiber
Additional Information:
Please note that all positions within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) have an in
person component with expected time in our College Park, MD location per week. Telework is not a guaranteed work arrangement.
