Director of Housing Operations
Job Description
The Director of Housing Operations serves as a member of the Student Affairs Division and
reports directly to the Dean of Students. This position provides overall vision, leadership, and administrative direction to the housing
experience for approximately 1,500 on campus students. Responsibilities include students residential living, housing operations, meal plan
management, budget management, and annual reports oversight.
This position will also provide ongoing support to students and staff
for housing placement that supports the University's mission, vision, and core values; and collaborate with other departments and divisions
to provide excellent service. The Director works closely with the residence life team, providing support for ensuring a high-quality housing
experience that promotes students' sense of connection to and engagement with the holistic residential experience at Augustana University.
Required Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in college student personnel, higher
education administration, or related field required.
Experience: Five to seven years of progressive and
transformative leadership experience in housing operations or similar fields required. The Director must have a theoretical and practical
knowledge of student development, its application within a residential environment, and a demonstrated ability to encourage and support
diversity equity and inclusion.
The successful candidate will also possess the following:
- Ability
to articulate the value of a residential experience to students, staff, faculty, and parents. - Ability to create conditions that
accept differences regardless of gender, race, religion, abilities, class, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and political
affiliation. - Experience with crisis intervention and conflict management.
- Practical knowledge of program evaluation
and assessment of learning outcomes. - Ability to effectively communicate using oral, written, and electronic communication.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with 3rd party campus partners.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Serve as the chief housing officer with responsibilities that include coordinating all housing and rooming processes, maximizing
and managing residential population; facilitating data management, as well as meal plan assignments and programs across campus. - Oversight for the University's housing program, providing leadership and direction related to the opening and closing of residential
communities, room and roommate assignments, occupancy management, billing, along with marketing and communications for all housing
operations. - Responsible for management of residential dining program, including meal plan enrollment and coordination services
with Dining Services. - Leadership and oversight in collaboration with the Director of Accessibility Services and the Director of
Residence Life for decision-making processes regarding requests for special accommodations related to housing and dining concerns, including
off-campus approvals, meal plan exceptions, special dietary needs, etc. - Help to support a residential community, partnering with
key stakeholders and faculty to advance student learning and support the university's academic mission. - Maintain a visible
presence within the department and division and provide a frequent presence in all residential communities. - Serve as a member of
the Director On-Call rotation. - Coordinate early arrivals program.
- Coordinate Micro-Chill refrigerator program.
- Oversees on-campus housing furniture inventory to include furniture repair and replacement.
- Provides support and
coordination to residence facilities budget. - Serves as liaison to Facility and Custodial Services regarding day-to-day and
routine facility & custodial needs in on-campus housing spaces. - Responsible for the management of summer housing projects,
including coordination of repair and replacement projects and implementation of other summer housing updates. - Assists in
supporting the summer camp and conference program for residence life summer guests. - Serve on campus wide committees as needed /
applicable. - Other duties as assigned.
Shared Responsibility
In addition to the primary
responsibilities outlined above, the Director will share responsibility for the following areas:
- Facilitate positive campus
partnerships to help enhance the residential experience for students on campus. - Provide a high degree of visibility and
availability to students and staff. - Effectively and insightfully engage diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty with
a fair and equitable mindset in reference to housing experience - Represent Student Affairs as necessary at university functions,
programs, activities, and events when appropriate.
