Essential Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive care for the university equine herd at the Reedy Creek Facility (RCF) while performing essential facility maintenance, including but not limited to all buildings, grounds, and specialized infrastructure.

- Effective Communication: Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written formats with varied stakeholders.
- Independent Execution: Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet departmental goals.
- Technical Comprehension: Interpret and apply University and departmental practices, including safety regulations, technical manuals, and standard operating procedures.
- Equipment Operation: Proficiently operate a variety of vehicles and machinery, including full-size pickup trucks, ATVs, and farm equipment (tractors and various attachments).
- Facility Maintenance: Utilize hand tools, power tools, and landscaping equipment to perform minor repairs, including fencing, watering devices, feeders, and basic plumbing.
- Lifting Capacity: Must be able to lift and move up to 125 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Comprehensive Equine Care & Handling: Extensive experience safely catching, leading, and restraining horses, as well as managing daily needs such as stall cleaning, feeding, and watering.
- Health Monitoring & Assessment: Proven ability to identify illness or injury in equines and recognize subtle behavioral changes to ensure animal welfare.
- Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance:Experience in the cleaning, routine maintenance, and repair of tractors, vehicles, and small engine equipment (e.g., oil/filter changes, battery, and tire maintenance).
- Technical & Administrative Proficiency:Experience in utilizing personal computers for professional communication and managing documentation via Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Licensing & Safety: Possession of a North Carolina Pesticide License, or the demonstrated ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
Required license or certification:
- NC Driver's License is required and will need to be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
