Are you a master of your craft who thrives in a high-impact, fast-paced environment? The Facilities Division at NC State is seeking a Journey-Level Facility Maintenance Technician to join our Building Maintenance and Operations team.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Install, repair, and maintain complex plumbing systems, fixtures, and piping.
- Perform journey-level electrical work (up to 600 VAC), including conduit wiring, switchgear, and panel maintenance.
- Diagnose, service, and repair HVAC units and sophisticated temperature control systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot boilers, pumps, fan turbines, air compressors, and water softeners.
- Work closely with fellow technicians and departments, following complex written/verbal instructions to solve infrastructure challenges.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and the public to provide seamless campus service.
- Lift and transport materials up to 90 pounds to facilitate heavy-duty repairs and installations, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Must participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks. Must be able to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
Minimum Experience/Education:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
Diagnose/troubleshoot/repair boilers, fan turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, expansion joints, strainers, pressure reducing stations; piping, insulation air compressors, water softeners and other equipment for generating/controlling steam which requires pipe fitting and other skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with mechanical systems.
- Experience in the repair, installation, and operation of complex mechanical systems within a commercial or university environment.
- Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls.
Required license or certification:
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Valid NCDL within 60 days of hire, must be maintained.
