Description:
The Carnegie Mellon University Department of English is searching for a Director of its Semester in Hollywood Program.
The Semester in Hollywood Director is responsible for all aspects of program operations, academics, and student support. Candidate must be self-sufficient and proactive. Duties include:
- Internship and Mentorship Placement: Cultivate relationships with potential internship hosts and partners in the entertainment industry and Identify meaningful internship opportunities for students; pair students with mentors.
- Teaching and Academic Coordination: Teach a weekly seminar course and design additional courses, ensuring that curriculum meets CMU's rigor.
- Staff Supervision: Hire, train, and supervise adjuncts and program coordinator.
- Student Advising & Professional Counseling: Provide student support, including career advice, conflict resolution, and navigating workplace challenges.
- Programming & Engagement: Plan and implement activities and excursions that align with program learning goals.
- Site Management: Oversee all operational logistics. Arrange student housing, classroom and office space.
- Budget Management: Ensure program expenses stay within budget.
- Liaison Functions: Serve as the primary point of contact between the Semester in Hollywood program and the Department of English. Create and maintain professional relationships with vendors, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience in the film, television, or broader entertainment industry.
- Demonstrated experience in senior or leadership roles within major studios, production companies, or media organizations.
- Significant track record as a writer, producer, or creative executive, with produced or distributed film/television credits.
- Experience providing script development, consulting, or creative advisory services for professional clients or organizations.
- Prior 四虎影视, training, or mentorship experience in higher education or professional development settings.
- Experience managing or directing internship programs, industry partnerships, or experiential learning initiatives.
- Established professional network within the entertainment industry, with evidence of sustained engagement and collaboration.
