Overview

The Academic Advisor position plays a key role in supporting student success by advising students on course selection, academic requirements for their chosen areas of concentration, and post-graduation planning. The position helps students navigate their academic journey, make informed decisions, and achieve their educational and scholastic goals.

Responsibilities
  • Serve on Committees: Participate in various college and university committees, including advising leadership, advisor caucus, practical advising, curriculum committee, and food insecurity coalition.
  • Certify Graduation: Maintain records on graduating students, ensure all graduation and minor requirements are met, and coordinate with the Office of the Registrar (OTR) for any changes.
  • Manage Student Records and Data: Oversee academic standing, manage student data in multiple systems (Banner, Degree Works, Workflow, Advise Assist, Qlik, Smartsheet, Salesforce), ensure FERPA compliance, and handle major and minor changes.
  • Create and Implement Retention Strategies: Develop and execute strategies to retain students.
  • Coordinate Orientation Sessions: Organize and attend Camp War Eagle and SOS sessions, advise students and parents, and assist with registration.
  • Advise Students: Conduct registration advising sessions, participate in pre-advising workshops, communicate through various channels, and maintain office hours for advising appointments.
  • Utilize Campus Software: Use various software tools (Advise Assist, Banner, Canvas, Salesforce, Smartsheet, Degree Works, Workflow) for advising-related tasks, including managing office hours, inputting data, creating content, and tracking processes.
  • Manage Student Crises: Coordinate with Auburn Cares on student issues (mental health, Title IX, academic, inter-personal), and provide support for academic and personal challenges.
  • Communicate with Stakeholders: Engage with parents, families, and campus partners while adhering to FERPA regulations.
  • Engage in Professional Development: Attend professional development sessions, conferences, and workshops at Auburn, regionally, and nationally/internationally, and serve in leadership roles.
  • Title IX Advising: Support complainants or defendants in Title IX cases, assist in hearing preparation, provide emotional support, and offer advice on mediation and hearing outcomes.
  • Transfer Specialist: Schedule and lead SOS Agriculture sessions, organize the SOS program, support transfer students, and manage their progress.
  • Department Award Committee Member: Prepare and submit award packets, provide insights on nominations, and attend committee meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • For positions that require the employee to teach, a Master's degree will be required.
