Coordinator of Upward Bound Math and Science Program - WHS (Hybrid/Remote)
The Coordinator will assist the Director of TRIO Programs in the daily delivery of program services to eligible participants to ensure
successful completion of secondary education as well as preparation and persistence through postsecondary education. Major responsibilities
include the promotion of services to the target community; providing academic and financial aid assistance to eligible participants wishing
to pursue a program of postsecondary education; and documenting and project services.

This is a federally grant funded position serving Weir High
School in Weirton, WV.
Hybrid/Remote. The remote location must be within reasonable driving distance of Weir High School with the ability to travel to
the school as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of TRIO Programs, the Coordinator will assist with the following:
- Coordination of programs and
strategies to improve recruitment, retention, and graduation rates for targeted populations. - Conduct applicant intakes, verify
student eligibility for the program, provide direct services to students, and maintain a student referral process with school personnel and
community partners. - Prepare individualized Educational Assessment Plans (EAP’s) for participants based on needs assessment every
academic year. - Document all advisement activity and provide regular status reports as required.
- Advise Program
participants in social, career, financial aid and academic areas. - Design and deliver college readiness workshops for collegiate
learning and success strategies in general and specific academic areas. - Under the direction of the project director, participate
in hiring, training, and evaluation process of program academic support staff (teachers and tutors/mentors). - Coordinate and
oversee tutors and mentors during the academic year and summer component. - Coordinate summer programming for participants,
including a six-week residential summer campus experience. - Coordinate and attend meetings to address concerns and interventions
with adults in students’ support systems. - Gather data for the Annual Performance Report to the U.S. Department of Education.
- Maintain record-keeping documents on program services utilizing program software (BLUMEN).
- Annually administer and interpret
the results of achievement test scores to students and disseminate the test information to the project director and target school
personnel. - Maintain documentation of counseling contacts with parents, teachers, and high school counselors, and submit reports to
the project director. - Provide parents and participants with workshops and information related to areas of concern, i.e., applying
for financial aid, completing admission applications, etc. - Provide supervisors and school personnel within the target area with
progress reports on participants, as needed. - Assist with planning, coordinating and chaperoning field trips.
- Engage in
follow-up activities (letter writing, phone contacts, visits, etc.) to determine the status of participants during and after their high
school graduation. - Assist in publicity and communication efforts for the Program, i.e., place posters in businesses, represent the
Program at local civic and community organizations, etc. - Complete other work consistent with a basic understanding of the mission,
vision role, and goals of the TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science Programs as outlined in the Grant and other duties assigned by the director
that job-related circumstances may demand.
Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social
work, business or a related field is required
Two years recent relevant work experience is required.
Relevant experience
includes but is not limited to program coordination and implementation that required development of professional, productive relationships
across a community to provide services; experience with academic advising, college access and financial aid advising, or counseling
services, instructing, mentoring, and tutoring students, experience with college access/student success initiatives in a public
school/agency, or institution; experience working with TRIO or other college access programs.
Must be able to meet the travel
requirements including possible airline travel.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with college access and success efforts at the national, state, and institutional level.
- Excellent
organizational and problem-solving skills. - Exceptional interpersonal skills, especially with students.
- Willingness and
ability to visit with potential students where they are located, e.g. various local educational institutions, public agencies, and community
organizations. - Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (students, colleagues, administrators), both verbally
and in writing; and ability to work well within a team. - Skill using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point,
and Outlook. - Local, regional, and some national travel are required, including airline travel.
- May require some
medium-heavy lifting for events.
