This role is a key strategic partner within CU Boulder Advancement and serves as the lead Advancement liaison for the BioFrontiers Institute. This is a limited-term, part-time role requiring a highly focused, strategic approach to fundraising and engagement.

This position is responsible for serving as the institute's fundraising expert and will carry an elevated and impactful portfolio of donors. The Senior Director often engages in strategic conversations with leadership and uses their fundraising tenure and expertise to engage and move donors toward higher levels of giving potential, mainly focusing on solicitations of $25,000+.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Portfolio Management and Donor Engagement
  • Manage a highly selective portfolio of individual prospects and entities, prioritizing those with the greatest capacity for major and principal gifts.
  • Focus on quality over volume, advancing a smaller number of high-potential relationships toward significant philanthropic investment.
  • Develop and implement strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans in alignment with BioFrontiers Institute priorities.
  • Conduct targeted donor outreach and visits, prioritizing opportunities with the highest likelihood of impact.
  • Design and facilitate strategic donor engagement events and experiences such as symposiums, faculty showcases, and small-scale convenings that align with BioFrontiers priorities and major/principal gift strategy, ensuring each engagement advances prospect cultivation and pipeline development.
  • Partner with advancement colleagues to co-manage and advance complex donor strategies.
  • Maintain clear and timely documentation of strategies, contact reports, and proposals.
Leadership and Strategy
  • Serve as a strategic advancement partner to BioFrontiers Institute leadership, focusing on a defined set of priority initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and alignment of top-tier philanthropic opportunities, particularly those with major gift and principal gift potential.
  • Provide targeted input on campaign strategy and positioning as it relates to the BioFrontiers Institute.
  • Engage selectively in high-value planning conversations where advancement's perspective is most critical.
Other Development Duties as Assigned
  • Grow philanthropic totals by deepening collaboration with advancement and other campus colleagues for enhanced donor engagement. This involves participating in regular internal meetings and engagement opportunities (task forces, frontline fundraiser meetings, etc.).
  • Work closely with the institute's leadership, faculty and volunteers to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate productive relationships daily between donors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effectiveness of programs.
  • Represent the University at events to support CU and cultivate donors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Should Know
  • This position will require local, regional, and out-of-state travel to meet with donors.
  • This position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule with some days on campus and some days remote.
  • This position will occasionally be required to work evenings/weekends.
  • This is a part-time, limited term appointment expected to end 1 year from the start date.
What We Can Offer

The salary range for this 60% time position is $84,000-$88,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available within Advancement guidelines.

What We Require
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, or a combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional, job-related experience.
What You Will Need
  • Expert knowledge of fundraising techniques, especially in a higher education/nonprofit environment. Ability to set and guide direction of fundraising efforts and influence others through subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities; able to appropriately manage time and meet set timelines.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback from leadership and campus partners.
  • Ability to champion the shared values of the Office of Advancement.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of tact, discretion, and collaboration in working with a diverse range of constituents including employees, students, volunteers, alumni, donors, and campus colleagues.
  • Phenomenal relationship building skills.
  • Growth mindset, resilience and perseverance.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • 8+ years of experience in major gifts.
  • Experience planning and implementing comprehensive fundraising campaigns.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or higher education environment.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification.
  • Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in related area of study.
  • Software Used: Microsoft Office products including Copilot 365 and Teams, donor tracking software (Salesforce), Zoom, LinkedIn, ChatGPT.edu.
